The Treatment

Tony Key

The film is about a man called Tony Key who is very rich, he wants to live his life quietly with his beautiful wife. All he wants to do is be happy and free but he can't because of his past haunts him.!

(In his past he used to be an assassin).

Tony has an idea that if he can create a drug to erase his memory he can escape the nightmares of his past life.  He uses his wealth to develop his mind altering drug. After many years of hard work and research, he finally creates the drug / potion that will rid him of his evil. On a dark rainy night he takes the drug that he has invented ........ it does not work as he had hoped and instead of taking his worst side away.
The drug turns him into a mutated monster that is a control freak that wants to control where he lives which in this case is New York... So the battle begins as he fights and destroys all in his way.

Storyline

This set out the story in more detail but a full script would be better.

Opening scene

A man is on the top of a tall building.. sweat is dripping from his head.. he is worried.
Its a close up shot of the man he moves his head to the left and his eye fits perfectly in front of a telescopic lens. We are then looking through the lens at a woman sitting at her desk... He thinks why her ?? why is she the job.. what has she done that means she has to be killed ??
He can't think like this, he has job to do.. CLICK he pulls the trigger ... job done..!,

Scene I
Tony wakes up from a bad dream in a cold sweat.
He is in bed and not looking good.

He sits up and put his head between his hands ... he is suffering

He feel so bad that he decides he has to change his life.
He is a wealthy man and he must be able to find a solution to his nightmare.

Scene II
In his New York office he starts to design a solution, at the drawing board he starts to scribble.

Scene III
He has managed to take things off the drawing board and a has now moved to a laboratory.
Here he is seen mixing and creating .. smoke fills the rooms and it is hard to see what he is doing.
He seems excited as he works .. this has taking a life of its own and him away from the nightmares.
In away this passion to find a cure is what he needs but he has not realised this. If he can create a drug to take his nightmares away he can live a perfect life.

Scene IV
Still in his lab ... but he is looking please and happy... he has the solution, the perfect drug to save him. He holds the bottle with the drug in aloft and is heard saying "this is it... Mary (his wife) this will save us and our world" he drinks the drug / potion.

Scene V
Having drunk the potion which clearly taste horrid, he stand still waiting for some thing to happen.
Nothing happens ... he looks confused and disappointed.. then a pain shoots through him and he collapses behind his desk.
We cut to a close up of Tony's face its seems to be covered in a fog / gas.. and he is screaming.
As he lifts out of the gas we see that he has changed into a mutated monster.. like a giant ape ... (Big Foot) but very red.. a bright day glow red.

Scene VI
Tony now in monster form and is wild with terror and confusion.. he smashes everything he see and or looks at and is last seen leaping through the widow on to the streets of New York.

Contingency plan

Pack up, go home and plan to do it another day.:-)
I have several friends that could step in to the roles if the proposed cast could not make it.
Set wise it's nearly all green screen which I have at home so it can be done any time.

Main problem would be the 3D studio work etc. However there are many places that can do this type of work.. I would need to get quotes from other places just in case.

Research

I've researched how the hulk transforms for the transformation from the drug scene.

The main problem will be the quality of the people doing the 3D Studio work. This is an area I would like to learn about and so if I was able to learn ,... I might even be able to attempt this myself. Mind you I realise that learning how to do this can't be sadly learnt over night.

What is a Recce Checklist?

Recce Checklist

A Recce Checklist is a big checklist of all the things you need to find out before shooting such as; location, confirm ownership, copyright issues, camera, Landmarks for directions, Risk of trespass, Shelter, Position of the sun, size of location, is floor level, secure place for kit, Schools, Aircraft, Weather, Wooden floor, Eating, Hotels and many more... You need to do so you know that you have everything you need before you go out to shoot the video.

What is a Risk Assessment?

What is a Risk Assessment?

A Risk Assessment Form is a form that informs us all the possible risks that may harm the crew. So you have to go though the list and tick all the possible risks that may harm your crew. You then need to decide whether that risk is present and if so, how severe it is, how likely it is and work out the overall risk factor. You can then go into detail about the risk and decided what action you're going to take to prevent the worst from happening. I think that common sense comes into use here but you must always try and imagine what the worst thing that could possibly happen and try and prevent the risk to happen.

Stages of production

Stages of production

1) Pre-Production - All the planning involved before you start filming. For example writing a script, casting actors etc, scouting a location, filling out all the necessary forms, preparing costumes/props etc.

2) Production - The actual shooting of your video. Lighting, sound, special effects, getting the camera shot right etc.

3) Post Production - The work done after the film has been shot. For example editing the video, adding and mixing music and audio, additional extra's such as ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording), visual effects etc.

Loglines

Legal

Some legal problems you may encounter when trying to distribute a film

- Character owned by another company
- Didn't get permission to film on location
- Branding problems, for example using the Pepsi logo without permission
- Copyrighted music
- Possibly ongoing court case around the subject of your film
- Liable and Slander

Errors and Admissions Insurance - Protects the company from the financial damage caused by oversights in clearing for copyright.

Loglines

We looked at how to write a logline for a film already released. We also looked at how to change an idea from a film and turn it into something completely new. e.g. I chose Iron Man and changed it into a musical
. Heres what that might look like;

My logline for Iron Man -

On the verge of being captured by terrorists, Tony Stark has to escape. But when Obadiah Stane takes over New York Tony Stark must learn that not all super hero's need super powers to be super.

This is Iron Man's actual log line;

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

1 minute music video clip

Music Video.. Sleepwalking

My group had to scrap our original plans due to the Atrium being used for the Open Evening at college which set us back. We had planned to set our entire video in this area of college.
So when we discovered is was not available it caused us a big problem.

Our plans were also hampered by the fact that we had an hour less to film thanks to the previously mentioned Open Evening. Despite these set backs we managed to come up with a whole new idea and quickly film a short section of a music video for Sleepwalker, a song by The Chain Gang of 1974 from the GTA V soundtrack.

We didn't have much time to plan out any of our shots but I think the filming went very well. We used a variety of shots we had learnt about in previous lessons and even managed to do a focus pull which looked great on camera. We mainly used handheld shots but for a couple of shots we did use a tripod on wheels to get a smooth movement. I took all the clips home and edited them all together and I think it turned out really well, Thank to my amazing editing skills.

Heres our 1 minute music video that I edited together;

Writing a Treatment

The treatment is the development of your idea from the proposal. It should include:

  • An indication of the size and content of the product. An initial script/storyline.
  • An estimated cost for production.
  • An idea of the personnel involved in the project.
  • A contingency plan.
  • Any research carried out for the production.

Introduction:
This is a short opening paragraph that summarises the original proposal and the approach that you will take to development the idea. Use this opening section to sell your idea.

Outline script:
In order to understand what actual resources you may need, and the timeline of your work, you will need to produce an outline script.
This brings together your ideas into a format that clearly demonstrates how the product will progress, and what it will look like when it is finished.
Have a clear picture of you media product.

Outline budget:
It is essential that you understand the budgetary requirements of your planned project. You will have to produce a realistic budget for the product that you are producing. You must use real examples of equipment hire and other costs when developing your budget.

Talent:
Who is doing what, mention who is doing what in your film-acting, voice-over, presenting, this will give the client a clear understanding how your film look and who is going to be involved.

Production staff:
Who’s working on the project-breakdown of crew

Contingency:
Things can go wrong, so it is vital you prepare a back-up plan-various reason things go wrong-ask class
first what those reason are.

1. Client changes their mind about the content of the product after agreement has been reached.
2. The price of materials or equipment changes once production has started.

3. An actor is ill or they can’t make it due to other commitments. 4. Equipment breaks down during shooting.
5. Severe weather conditions/or just change of weather means continuity is difficult to maintain.

Contingency planning is extremely important-it is there, as a safety net when things go wrong-All productions must include a contingency plan.

Research:
Include any conducted research. This might links to similar products that you have looked at, online research of articles or surveys carried out.

Story Boards

Story Boards

These are drawn up so the Camera Operator/Cinematographer can see exactly what kind of shot the director wants and how he wants them to be shot. They don't show every frame in the production, but just enough to get an idea of what it's going to look like.

Some directors have started using a video storyboard technique where they get a camcorder and take it to set with the actors and do a test run of each scene so they can get a visual look at how each shot looks, even if it isn't anywhere near as good quality as a film camera.

Budgeting

Budgeting

We watched another film on youtube called 'Validation' and looked at how money could have been saved on this production.

- Actors : Get friends to do the acting for you or use students from college
- Props : use objects you already own or pick them up for cheap at car boot sales etc. Same can be said for costumes.
- Equipment hire : Hire equipment for free from college or use your own.
- Locations - Find your own locations and note them down for future use.
