Guidance:

1.     Assess whether a hazard will be present, write YES or NO.  Then for each hazard that you have said YES to do the following:
2.     Rate each risk on a Severity scale from Negligable (N), Low risk (L), Moderate risk (M), Severe (S), Very severe (V)
3.     Rate each risks Likelihood on scale from Very unlikely (VU), Unlikely (U), Possible (P), Likely (L), Very likely (VL)
4.     Determine the Risk Factor from the table overleaf.

P = Present      /           S = Severity     /           L = Likelihood  /           R = Risk Factor

Script

Script

-A script must be typed up in Courier font, 12pt.
- The first time a new character is introduced his name must be in all caps, after the first time you just have caps at the start of each name
- Some writers never use CUT TO: arguing that transition is implied when moving from one scene to another.
- Scene headings indicate whether the location is an interior (INT.) or exterior (EXT.), the location and if it is day or night.
- The scene description is always double spaced down from the scene heading, it indicates in the most economical terms what the setting is, who the characters are, and what action is taking place.
- Each character has a 'Character Cue' when he/she has a section of dialogue, their name is above the dialogue in capitol letters

Layout

- Dialogue is 3" from the left
- Scene Headings and Scene Descriptions are 1.5" from the left
- Character Cue's are 4" from the left
- 1" from the right is as far as writing can go.

It should look like the script below that I wrote the following script myself :

The 3 act Structure

The 3 act structure

  • ·      Beginning
  • ·      Middle
  • ·      End

The first act is about establish equilibrium, by the end of act one we should know what the main characters goal is.

The second act is about conflict

The third act is about the out come of the movie.
  • ·      Does he achieve his goals?
Below is the first idea I had for my short film .. but its a bit depressing and an idea I did not like in the end.:

Tony Key is a rich man, who lives in modern times.  His goal is to live his life to max and he does..! However he is haunted by his a past and this problems mean he can’t move on in life.
This worry / stress is an illness, which makes him forget about his past including his wife/family and friends.  He sadly dies… Its a film about mental illness.

TheMotionPotion Inc production:

Dear Sir

I have been working on an idea for a short film for some time. I now feel that it is at the stage where I should present it to someone from within the film industry so as to get feed back and hopefully input etc. The film idea is aimed 15-45 year old's but could be suitable for anyone who is 15 and above.

The Life of Tony Keys (In 10 minutes)

"Working title"

The film is about a man called Tony Key who is very rich, he wants to live his life quietly with his beautiful wife. All he wants to do is be happy and free but he can't because of his past haunts him.!

(In his past he used to be an assassin).

Tony has an idea that if he can create a drug to erase his memory he can escape the nightmares of his past life.  He uses his wealth to develop his mind altering drug. After many years of hard work and research, he finally creates the drug / potion that will rid him of his evil. On a dark rainy night he takes the drug that he has invented ........ it does not work as he had hoped and instead of taking his worst side away.
The drug turns him into a mutated monster that is a control freak that wants to control where he lives which in this case is New York... So the battle begins as he fights and destroys all in his way.

Characters

  • Tony Key - Main character
  • Mary Key - Tony's wife
A film along these lines will need a great deal of special effects as Tony changes into the monster. Plus as its set in New York a computerised / animated version of the city would be required and some large sets especial Tony's lab where he works to create the potion / drug. As most of the film would be set in Tony's lab,  this could be done using a green screen and computer graphics as a background to reduce set build cost etc

Music and sound effects will be very important so as to set / create the atmosphere but most of this can be done on computer.

So all though a short film it could be costly if not managed correctly.

Gladiator

The opening shot is a close-up of a man's left hand touching wheat as he walks through a wheat field. The reason for the close-up shot could possibly be to keep the man's Identity a secret from the viewer.
However we can tell that he is probably married as he seems to be wearing a wedding ring.
The music being played is tranquil and gives the viewer the impression that the man has been in this field before ... maybe as a child.

It then cuts to a medium head and shoulders shot of what turns out to be our hero in the film. He is deep in thought and looks depressed and worried. As he moves away he spots a bird (a Robin) which might indicate its winter. The bird represents a freedom that the man does not have.

We then see many soldiers on the move after what looks like a tough battle. The camera stops and zooms in slowly through a blue flag waving about to a man with a grey bears and dressed in leather and gold, it's clear that he is someone important within the army... a General type of man.

Our hero the Gladiator walks through / passed his men and it is clear he commands their respect.
The battle has in fact not happened yet and the enemy send back a scouts headless body as a rider on a horse. This means the enemy are not prepared to give up and form in front of the Roman troops ready for battle. The Gladiator bends down and runs his hand through the mud, smells the earth that he might be about to die fighting for. It also shows he is ready to get his hand dirty and fight alongside his soldiers, He wishes his immediate command Strength and Honour, mounts a horse ready and tells the soldiers that at his signal to unleash hell...! The battle is about to start. The Roman troops who are the good guys in the film and clearly a well organised fighting machine and the bad guys ( Germany )
seem like a rabble ready to fight.  The Gladiator rides off to meet a separate team of soldiers on horse back, that seem like they are his own team / fighting squadron. He gives them a rousing pep talk saying that he will be tending his crops soon and they should think were they will be soon, so it can be so.
The music builds the excitement but it reminds me of the music from Pirates of the Caribbean ( I will have to find out if it's the same composer ).

The battle begins with fire being shot towards the bad guys... Hell is raining down on them...!
We see many wide shots of the battle starting with some of the bad guys being struck with fire, arrows and spears. We also see the man with the grey beard, gold and leather costume... still no clue who he is other than he looks regal possibly Cesar. The Gladiators separate troop have set off and are charging through the woods... with him shouting for everyone to stay in line...! They are going to attack the enemy from another side, in a pincer movment. They attack from behind taking the enemy by surprise as they fight our Gladiator is knocked from his horse... now on the floors he is attacked and fights for his life in hand to hand combat. As the battle draws to an end the film and music slow down into almost slow motion as the Romans hack and slay their way to victory. It once again slowly zooms into finish this sequence on the man with the grey beard... who this time looks relived that the Romans have won.
It is almost as if he in pain and that fact that they have won means he will not need to fight.

Floor Plan

The Location

I think that this location would be good for a horror movie because of the space the field opposite the house provides the film maker. The park would be a good area for a social gathering where the teenagers could go for a night out... plus it would make a great place to for the killer to strike. The house could be a place where the victims are very easily trapped.

Above you can see a floor plan of a set, that I have created. You can see it would be very easy to get trapped in this apartment by the masked evil man of horror, because there is only one door to get out of this  apartment and there is only one hall way to get to the other rooms.
